2023 GMC Sierra 3500 HD
The GMC Sierra 3500 returns for 2023 with a few light updates, just as capable of towing, hauling, and efficient daily commutes as it was last year. Give it a shot if you need even more power than the Sierra 2500. Here are more details on this GMC heavy-duty pickup.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Sierra 3500 is available as a Regular Cab, Double Cab, or Crew Cab. Each cab size is available in five trims: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The Pro trim level is a work truck, with 17-inch steel wheels and a full set of LED daytime running lights, headlights, and taillights. It also offers a spray-in bed liner. Consider adding the Pro Convenience package to get a power locking tailgate, remote keyless entry, and power windows, doors, and side mirrors. The SLE adds those features and a six-way MultiPro tailgate.
The SLT builds from the SLE, adding LED fog lights and 18-inch wheels. The AT4 has skid plates, the spray-on bed liner, red recovery hooks, and a long list of off-roading features. The Denali packs on every luxury, including 20-inch chrome wheels and matching accents.
Engine (Power)
There are two engine options for the 2023 Sierra 3500: a 6.6-liter V-8 or a Turbo-Diesel of the same size and displacement. The former gets a six-speed automatic transmission, 401 horsepower, and 464 pound-feet of torque. The latter gets a 10-speed automatic, 445 horsepower, and 910 pound-feet of torque. SLE and higher models add cruise control.
Performance
The 2023 Sierra 3500 can haul a maximum of 6,985 pounds. It can tow up to 20,000 pounds in standard configurations and rear-wheel drive, but with two extra wheels on the rear axle, that rises to 36,000 pounds. If you're opting for the Sierra 3500 Pro, consider the Convenience package to add cruise control. The AT4 has twin-tube Ranchero shocks, an Autotrac two-speed transfer case, and an off-road suspension.
Interior
The Pro trim has durable vinyl floors, air conditioning, and two USB ports. The 3.5-inch driver information display serves in place of a regular instrument cluster, and you'll also get a 7-inch touch-screen display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and a 112-volt power outlet. The SLE offers an 8-inch screen with more features in a package, but also includes carpet flooring, OnStar, and Wi-Fi. You can also add dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, push-button and remote start, and a 10-way power driver's seat to the SLE.
The SLT trim expands the luxury further with dual 10-way power front seats and a heated steering wheel. It also offers front bucket ventilated seats and a center console through an SLT Convenience package. The AT4 adds heated rear seats and a bigger touch-screen display, while the Denali packs every top-level seating and technology feature available.
Safety Features
Even starting Pro models include a teen driver safety mode. An available Driver Alert I package adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, and park assist, while Driver Alert II adds forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, and high-beam assist.
Integrated trailer-brake control is included on the SLE or higher. The SLT and higher models have a hitch view for the rear camera. Hill-descent control appears on the AT4 or higher, and an available AT4 Preferred package adds a bed camera and surround camera with a trailer view.
