2023 GMC Terrain
Sitting in the super-competitive small SUV segment, the 2023 GMC Terrain features a welcoming and spacious interior highlighted by an intuitive infotainment system. Compared to other vehicles in this class, the Terrain gives you a slightly more premium experience, further enhanced in its upper trims. After undergoing key changes for the 2022 model year, including the addition of an off-roading AT4 trim, the 2023 GMC Terrain is a vehicle worth considering for your next vehicle purchase.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 GMC Terrain is available in four trims: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. Its appearance changes depending on the trim level. For instance, the lower two trims have grilles with chromed slats, the AT4 is the off-roading option, and the Denali has a chromed mesh grille. Wheels range from 17 to 19 inches. The base trim includes LED headlights, but moving up a trim level adds roof rails and a hands-free liftgate.
Three new paint colors join the mix, all of which are available on every trim. They include Deep Bronze Metallic, Sterling Metallic, and Volcanic Red Tintcoat. Another new feature is the Black Diamond Edition package, which is optional on the top-of-the-line Denali trim. It adds several safety features along with 19-inch alloy wheels with an After Midnight finish.
Engine (Power)
Regardless of the trim you choose, all 2023 GMC Terrain vehicles come with the same powerful engine. The 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. This engine has five more horsepower compared to the outgoing model. It's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive comes standard on the top two trims. All-wheel drive is available on the two lower trims.
Performance
Compared to other vehicles in its class, the 2023 GMC Terrain achieves average gas mileage. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive and 24 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.
Interior
With an attractive and well-configured interior, the 2023 GMC Terrain offers plenty of cabin space regardless of which row you're sitting in. Those riding in the second row only lose 1 inch of legroom, so they can easily stretch their legs during long road trips. The cargo area is just as spacious, thanks in part to a standard 60/40 split-folding rear seat and a front seat that folds flat. Cloth upholstery is standard, but even moving up one trim adds leather upholstery.
For infotainment, the Terrain comes standard with a 7-inch touch-screen display along with a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The infotainment system is easy to operate and responds quickly to graphics. A head-up display is available on the SLT and AT4 trims, but it's standard on the Denali as is a navigation system.
Safety Features
Every 2023 GMC Terrain includes a handful of driver-assistance features, but you can add others, depending on the trim. Some standard features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
